FIRST STEP HOUSE Medication Technician in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Medication Technician works with clients in our residential treatment center. The Medication Technician works under the license of the Registered Nurse who supervises and delegates medication management duties in accordance with Sections R156-31b-701 and R156-31b-701a of the Nurse Practice Act Rule. Client care is of primary importance in this position. Given the vulnerability of clients new in recovery, a high level of customer service, empathy, communication, and strong interpersonal boundaries are required. The Medication Technician must be in constant communication with the nurse, the clinical team, and the administrative staff regarding medication issues. Documentation and record management must be precise and timely. This position requires a high attention to detail to avoid medication errors and potential diversion. The Medication Technician assists the Registered Nurse and Program Director in other administrative tasks and works in concert with the priorities of the Senior Management Team, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors. The overall goals of this position are to (a) provide a high level of client care, (b) manage medication administration needs, and (c) collaborate with all relevant parties regarding medication management.

  • $ 40,000-$43,000 annually BOE
  • 36-hour work week

Education and Experience:

  • An active certification as a nursing assistant, medication aide, or pharmacy technician is preferred.
  • Experience with substance use disorder and medication management is preferred.

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Process incoming and outgoing medication
  • Fill medication cassettes under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Update and monitor medication administration records
  • Update and monitor narcotic administration records
  • Assist in medication passing
  • Participate in medication destruction, according to policy
  • Report any medication errors
