Position Summary

This position shall routinely patrol NEC's distribution facilities for inadequacies, hazardous conditions, reliability, for conformance to RUS specifications, conformance with all State, Federal, local, and other utility regulations, and for cost effectiveness and safety. The Engineering Technician will provide reliable and current knowledge and application of various software and hardware opportunities while working with members, other employees, and the public in a courteous and professional manner regarding all activities of NEC. The Engineering Technician shall keep the Engineering Supervisor informed by daily providing reports and information regarding the status of day-to-day activities and the progress of special plans, activities, projects, and staking arrangements.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides timely and accurate services to the Cooperative by assisting the Engineering Supervisor in the preparation and development of staking sheets conforming to NEC's maintenance plan in a timely manner. Assists in maintaining efficient operations of the Cooperative by developing and maintaining all system maps and new maps.
  • Maximizes effective use of labor by planning, scheduling, and preparing daily workloads and coordinating the same with the Engineering Supervisor and preparing weekly reports on jobs staked and completed.
  • Become knowledgeable and proficient in the working of Power Quality analyzers and provides flexibility to the Engineering Supervisor in troubleshooting poor power quality complaints.
  • Assist Engineering Supervisor in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining various products, systems, or processes. This will involve conducting experiments, collecting, and analyzing data, troubleshooting technical issues, preparing technical reports, and collaborating with other team members. This will often be utilized with specialized tools, equipment, and software to support engineering projects and ensure their successful implementation. Additionally, will be involved in quality control, ensuring that products meet specifications and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field of discipline
  • One (1) year experience in electric line construction and/or three to five (3-5) years of engineering, maintenance, mapping, and surveying experience.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of electricity distribution overhead and underground systems designs
  • Operations and maintenance as per RUS specifications.
  • Class C Driver's License

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and five (5) years' experience in electric line construction consisting of engineering, maintenance, mapping, and surveying experience.
